Where can i find cheap ballet and tap shoes?

i am starting a dance class and i need to get tap AND ballet shoes so please help me out!!!

Where can i find cheap ballet and tap shoes?performing art center

well honestly, you shouldn't get cheap dance shoes.

you need good quality shoes.

so if you really want to dance, then you should pay a few extra bucks to get good shoes.

trust me, it's worth it.

i've been dancing for a long time and if you have bad shoes, it will mess up your feet.

trust me.

Try ebay.
dancewear solutions is good
depends on where you live cuz most cities have dance stores
If you have small feet (size 5 to 6) you can always try the children's section at payless. They have tap and ballet shoes (though not toe ballet shoes) for less than $20 each. I hope that helps :)
Well, I guess it depends on where you live. Have you heard of "Play-It-Again Sports"? It's a store chain where they sell used sports equipment. I got a pair of really nice hockey ice skates for only $8.

Good luck with your business:)!
Believe it or not, Payless Shoesource and Walmart both sell tap and ballet shoes. I'm sure they aren't expensive there. Check them out if you live in a city near one store or the other.

One good thing about Payless is if the store you go doesn't have your size or what you are looking for their new computer/cash register can locate the closest pair to you.

Good Luck!
Goodwill or the Salvation Army or any pawn shop.

You'd be surprised.

Im 15 ive been training ballet since 13 6hours a week cani be professinale?theater

Can I be a professional dancer? Short answer - probably not. Truth is (and I hope I'm wrong) is that while you seem to have a passion for ballet, you are probably short on talent and that's the bottom line. No amount of classes is going to change that or make up for that lack. You are years behind the training curve at this point too. By now you should be the best in your class and should have been in nationally recognized summer dance intensives for at least the last two years (like Joffrey, ABT, Rock School etc. on a scholarship. You clearly are not there, and it may time to face facts and realize that your odds of becoming a professional ballerina are extremely remote if not non-existent. Take the suggestions that "you can do anything if you want it bad enough" with a grain of salt. I know tis is not what you want to hear, but it is probably the truth.

That being said, there is no reason you can't continue training to become the best dancer you can. You may turn out good enough to dance in college and amatuer shows when you get older.

Training? You need at least 4 1 1/2 hour classes plus 1 or 2 1 hour pointe classes a week minimum. Presumably there is a dance company associated with your dance school that rehearses a Nutcracker and a Sping show for several hours on Saturdays. Talk to your teachers and your studio director for a full evaluation of your potential.

Im 15 ive been training ballet since 13 6hours a week cani be professinale?london theatre opera theater

It doesn't matter how long you train, it's how well you do. A three- year old can draw all the time, however, he won't draw Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa
Okay....you seem very passionate about Ballet...and that is the key of becoming a pro! If you believe in yourself, then you can achieve anything...this saying may be old but it's soooo incredibly true! Have the drive to practice practice practice (practice makes perfect)...but don't stress out on it! If becoming a pro ballerina is not possible...study hard in school :D but ballet will always be a hobby :) lifelong?
You obviously have the passion for it, which is an incredible help - and actually I don't think that the timing is completely off. Until right before you go on pointe, you don't want to spend too much time in the studio. You might want to try increasing the 6 hours a week because that's not as much as it sounds. Check and see if your dance studio has an early release program for students your age and see whether or not you can get into it. Most of the very serious dancers go through that and also start checking out dance camps - they don't have to be the ones associated with companies or big schools but just ones where you can refine your technique and get some exposure to other types of dance just for fun. Just keep in mind that the dance world if very competitive and that if you don't have the feet or the body type, it doesn't always matter if you have the passion. Enjoy ballet for what it is - a way to express yourself through movement - keep practicing and working on both your technique and your artistry and have fun with it
First I would talk with your parents see what they think. I think you should also ask your teacher what else you should do. I think if you just work hard and are serious then you can become a dancer no matter what.
take about 3 ballet classes and about 2 pointe classes and each year do a little more, you have a passion for dance which is what really matters

when you do pointe don't just do pointe work on tecniqe too!

I love dance and every year I do a little more, in 2 weeks i'll be old enough to try out for the pro. training program at my school which means I can take as many classes as I want a week for one price, look for programs like that in your area and when you feel ready try out for it!

alos summer intensives give you ALOT of experiance!

hope I helped!

-stephanie??
You are getting a little up there, but it sounds like you have a solid foundation, and the requisite passion. The key for you right now is getting with the right teachers, in the right schools. They can better evaluate your ability and your potential.

If they dissuade you from a career in ballet you could always look into other forms of expressive dance. Dance is man's earliest and most elemental art forms.

Hopefully, your parents are supportive and will help you get evaluated. If not, beware of strangers that claim they can *help* you. You might be mature and worldly for a 15 year old, but there are definitely predators out there.

If i wanted to take ballet class???? please answer....?

im 15 years old and want to take dance again i was thinking ballet but how would that work? would i have to be with a bunch of little kids cause i have no experience or what? thanks alot for any information!!!!!

If i wanted to take ballet class???? please answer....?the grand theater

Most schools of any quality will offer a teen and/or adult beginners class. If a school tries to put you in with little kids, I wouldn't enroll there anyway because they probably don't have any idea what they're doing. Ballet is a good place to begin for any dance education, as it is a basis for many other types of dance (tap, jazz, lyrical, modern, etc.).

Good luck, and enjoy ballet! It's always been my favorite!

If i wanted to take ballet class???? please answer....?soap opera opera theater

jryj5yjw5y
well.. this is my 8 th year taking ballet ... but dont worry about getting stuck with little ons cuz they will put u in a group with teens your age .. and if they see that u really are bad they will give u a sheet saying to come to private corses
They most likely will place you in a class of your own age group at the same level.
They will probably place you in a teens class, who even though started late, will go a little bit faster so you can catch up to where you are sopposed to be if you had started on time.
usually they put you in a class with your age group. usually beginners or a couple years.

but you do the same stuff

so it doesnt matter.
i would try a smaller studio. there u will be with a range of kids that probably dont have any more experience than u do. im in a class with a total of four kids and they range from 9-13. so don't worry about it too much
It depends on the school. Some schools have a teen ballet class for beginners.
most dance schools offer classes for all ages and skill levels. They will have older advanced classes and older beginner classes. Same goes for younger kids. You shouldn't be put with younger kids. If you're not sure, just go to the dance studio and ask.
You should definately go for the ballet class! It works great if your at a good dance studio. Its very fun and I love it! Barre isnt as fun as pointe and other things, but overall i think ballet is the best thing you should do. The dance school you choose will probably have a teen class, with people and teenagers who either stopped doing ballet and would like to continue, or women in their 20-30s, and kids who decided not to do pointe and chose to do ballet recreationally instead, and of course, there are some people with no ballet experience. That group of people is obviously not too hard to keep up with, and the teacher will just give you a workout with elementary and basic ballet material. Try out different dance studios and take a preview kind of class to make sure you like it there, unless you already have a definate place to go to. Hope this helped! GOOD LUCK!

A question for piano players & ballet dancers...?

I'm trying to find the name of a ballet/piano song.

there's no words to it, though, hah. So it's very hard to find.

I've seen it many times in movies, when people open Jewelry Boxes. %26amp;It's at the beginning of a Hip Hop song by Nas.

Sorry to be so vague, but i really need to know, and it's a very common song.

What do people wear to ballet's?

My girlfriend and I are going to be attending our first ballet at the Four Seasons Centre in Toronto, Ontario. What do people usually wear there? We'll be sitting in the grand ring.

What do people wear to ballet's?star theater

Formal wear and the guy can wear a suit if you don't own a tux. I love the ballet!!!

What do people wear to ballet's?extension opera theater

suit and tie for you nice evening dress for her, it is usually very smart.
Tutu
something nice but comfortable ,,you don't want to be uncomfortable when you stand or sit do you,, i know i wouldn't
I very nice suit, even a tux for you and the equivelant for your GF. This will be attended by the elite and they will be dressed in their best. Many of these cultural affairs are more "See and be seen" affairs than for the enjoyment of the event itself. Considering this, you want to "Be Seen" in the best possible clothing in very conservative style.
I'm going to assume (being from Toronto myself) that you are going to see the Nutcracker!

I would recommend dress depending on what time your show is. If it is in the afternoon you can dress down a bit, a nice shirt, and slacks will do.

However, if the show is at night I would suggest dress pants and a nice collared shirt, with or without a tie. Depending on your age, and comfort level I might even recommend a suit or jacket (nothing too too fancy, not a tux). Also because of the time of year people will be dressing up a bit more.

For girls I would suggest some nice dress pants or a skirt and a dressy top, or even a simple cocktail dress. Don't show too much skin, you want to dress rather conservatively.

Basically look presentable, and make sure you're comfotable in what you're wearing! Have fun

Anyone have their child in ballet?

I was curious as to what was a good age to get a child into ballet and also what it costs more of less. Thanks!

Anyone have their child in ballet?opera songs

I believe that this depends on what you want to get out of the ballet classes. You really don't want to start anyone younger than 3, or they won't get much out of it. 3 is a good age, regardless of your goals. The upper age limit is really more important if you plan for your child to dance seriously. She should start classes no later than age 5 at a professional ballet school if this is the case. The dance school is really important, also depending on your goals. There are many dance schools that are geared towards having fun, developing coordination, etc. If you plan for your child to have professional training, you want to do a lot of research into the ballet school first.

As far as cost goes, this varies significantly depending on school and part of the world. Most schools have a monthly tuition based on the number of classes attended (i.e. 1 time per week for a little one). It gets super expensive if she becomes serious about it and is taking 8-10 classes a week (high school age ususally). Sorry I can't give you more of a ballpark -- it varies so much.

I also thought I'd mention that I wish I had more training in other areas of dance instead of concentrating 100% of my time on ballet -- especially since my career is not in dance. I would love to be good at other types too. I will definitely put my daughter in all types so she can choose what she likes (if any!)

Anyone have their child in ballet?secure browser opera theater

I was three when I started. Though, I didn't technically start in ballet. It was a pre-ballet/dance movement prep course for the level one class. But I was three.

I have no idea how much it costs anymore. The company I'm going to go back to is fairly expensive by my standards(about $150 a month for two classes I think)
I was around 8 when I started, but you can start them as early as 3. I would suggest that if your child is younger than first grade then put them in just a dance class. It will give the the boost they need for ballet, plus ballet can be hard on the body. The prices vary on where you go, if its a professional dance studio with competitions then it will be a lot. If I remember right it was around $100+ (the cheapest) a month plus outfits and fees for competitions. Check around in your area and churches, most of them will have a free dance class for younger kids.

Also, as a FYI, make sure that their feet have stopped growing before you put them in pointe class, it can stunt their growth and sericously damage their feet for life!

Hope that helps!
i was 5 when i started and im still doing it going into high school. as she gets older its helpful to keep the ballet and maby add a few other classes because dance/ drill team don't just use one type of dance but they use all kinds. also as they get older they can get into point which is a higher ballet . its the kind that goes up on your toes. i started that in 3rd grade

Would any girls go out with me if I were taking Ballet classes?

I am 19, straight, and single and I really want to start taking Ballet lessons. I was just wondering if there were any girls out there that would date a guy who did ballet. I am a little over 6'8" tall, thin, and in good shape go to the gym every day. I am a dedicated Baptist, and go to church every week. I am in Junior college. That is my background, but I just wondered if any girls would go out with me if I were in Ballet class?

Would any girls go out with me if I were taking Ballet classes?chicago theater

oh yea lol.

some girls are a little shocked when the kno that a guy does ballet tho...but girls who do ballet are used to it. and if you think about it, there are a lot of reasons that a guy would want to take ballet classes, and not just because he likes the dancing haha. but thats usually part of it because no one wants a perv in tights in class lol.

but yea lots of girls date male dancers, even ballet, its a sport that takes a lot and is impressive. =)

Would any girls go out with me if I were taking Ballet classes?met opera opera theater

Hell yeah. Male ballet dancers are strong and toned.
r u gay? if u r going to take ballet lessons than u must be gay
what's wrong with ballet class?? yes, of course! if i were the girl then i would be proud dating someone who can do ballet..
I guarantee that more guys than girls would love to go out with you if you become a ballet dancer.

But you're into chicks. Most girls would probably assume you're gay at first -- you must realize this -- but then they would find you quite alluring after they "discover" you're not. Girls love the fine arts -- ballet, theater, etc. -- they find it sexy -- so go for it, dude, but only if you like ballet yourself. Why?

Because ballet is hard to do -- I mean, really, really hard to do, if you want to do it well. You work muscles that you never knew you had, and you punish your toes into bleeding little nubs. I guarantee to you that if you get involved in ballet just to impress some girls, you will fail miserably at ballet, and if you fail miserably at ballet, you will fail to impress the ladies.

It's much easier to become a cosmetologist/hairdresser. Girls would find you alluring for the same reasons as stated above -- that you're in a profession typically deemed "gay" but you're not gay yourself.

Funny story: My grandfather was a male cheerleader in high school, and that's how he met my grandmother.
I think that taking ballet is cool, and as long as a girl can see how confident you are in what you're doing, I'm sure she'll think you're cool too. Just don't act like it's one big joke, explain why it's something that you really like to do. (And make sure you don't date anyone that's not a Christian.

2 Corinthians 6:14 - Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?)

Keep being bold with your faith!

God bless!
i would..i love ballet and i know how hard it is

if guys give you a hard time say ull be the only guy with like 10 girls.

How do I select a Ballet slipper that will suit my needs?

Having purchased everything I need for my first ballet lesson I starting to think that I may have purchased a pair that are unsuitble for my needs. I stuck with a well known brand Capezio, as I am only a beginner starting my first lessons the Capezio Juliet canvas split sole were recomended to me as I would have a better feel of were my feet are position but the more I research into which pair would be most suited to a beginner the more I feel I have chosen the wrong pair as there are so many variable support, etc, etc. Can anybody give a simple understanding of what pair I should be starting out in.

How do I select a Ballet slipper that will suit my needs?theatre tickets

I'vedanced for 22 years, and working in dance retail put me through college. For an older dancer (like, above the age of nine...)I always suggest a split sole. The Capezio Juliet is a great shoe. I personally don't like canvas, but the Juliet has a nice profile. Its also available in leather, but there are people who swear by canvas, its just a matter of personal preference. Cnavas does wear out much quicker thanleather, so if you decide you want to try a new style afterward, you won't be stuck with them forever. Generally speaking though,I think you'll be pleased with them.

How do I select a Ballet slipper that will suit my needs?opera house opera theater

You have the right pair already. Since you are a beginner, you really need a sense of where your feet are, so the ones you have are perfect. Once you have learned how it feels to be in each position, and where your feet need to be, then you can move onto some other slippers.
you may want to try out whole soles, instead of split soles. but otherwise, capezio is a great brad, that should work just fine :]

good luck!
split sole canvas are great, because you'll be able to "feel the floor" more [a term you'll learn sooner or later] and it also gives you flexibilty in the shoe as well as support. i personally use bloch canvas split sole.. so you definitely have the perfect shoe. you might also want to sew elastics on the shoe like an x over your shoe if you havent already.

Since they are canvas all you have to do is throw them in the washer. Don't put them in the dryer though. the best way to dry them is to lay them flat till they are just damp, then wear them around the house until dry. this forms them to your feet, in fact many dancer's wash their shoes as soon as they get them to make them fit better. hope this helps

The upper part of the shoes are leather. So, I would recommend just cleaning them of with just some mild detergent. When I took ballet, I found this to be effective in cleaning my shoes.
If you are wearing leather shoes then definitely hand wash them, but if your shoes are canvas you can throw them in the washer. Just don't machine dry.
Like the previous answers, I suggest hand washing if they are leather. If they are canvas you can wash them in the machine, but I'd recommend putting them in a lingerie bag just to be safe.
i always washed them in the washing machine

I really want to do ballet?

I've cheered and done gymnastics since a kid...I'm 21 now..and I've always been told that I have the ideal body for a dancer. Well, I want to do ballet...but I just feel like I'll be dorky because I'm too old. I know a lot of ppl who start out as kids, dancing. So what do you think? Tips? Advice? Should I give it a try???? Or no? I'm leaning toward yes, because I think it'd be cool...but I wanted other ppl's opinions. Thanks!!!!!

I really want to do ballet?

You may be too old to become a pro, it will take years for you to learn all the things you would know by now if you had started as a child. I do think you should try, though. Ballet is beautiful and graceful. If you have a passion for it, then you are never too old to start. Now, GO DANCE!!!

I really want to do ballet?opera mobile opera theater

Go for it!

try to find a beginers class for ppol your age. Don't feel dorky, ballet is fun %26amp; great for all ages; No matter when you start.

I think you should totally do it.

have fun!
there are a lot of adult dance classes that offer ballet.

call different dance centers in your area, and you have some experience because of cheer and gymnastics so youll be fine!!
I think you should go to a local studio and ask to join a ballet class...I am a young dancer and in one of my ballet classes there is a older woman who just takes the class for exercise. However she used to be dancer so it's a bit of a different story. Some studios do have adult beginner ballet classes so go check it out.
I say just give it a go, if you dont tend to like and enjoy it, just stop. I think your a bit too old to become a professional ballet dancer, but if you already have good flexiblility and can catch on quick, you could be quite good. Like i said b4, just give it a go.
try it of course i dance ballet since im 6 but a friend of mine got in last year she is 17 and she is really good dont worry for the litle ones u鈥瞝l obiously get in a much higher level in short time u just need the feeling any feeling to dance just express it it gets out all ur worrys and if u dance with ur heart and u鈥瞝l b really good dont worry many people have been in ballet for about 20 years and theyr as good as peopl with 3 years in ballet u just need to feel it and the music so try it
as the lady at broadway dance in the movie center stage says "GO FOR IT!!!!"
Hm, well your never too old to start dancing.

But professionally? Probably not.

And yes, cheerleading and gymnastics will help you with being "fit" for dance, but as far as the fundamentals and technique. Im not sure, It looks alot easier than it is..you know? And cheering nor gymnastics will not help you "learn faster" because they are both nothing like ballet. Ballet is an art, not a sport.

Usually girls start at a very young age, are on pointe by usually 12 or so, and are nearly at a professional level by their late teens. I just know that we have older inexpirianced girls come into our class, only because they would simply be embarassed to join a beginner or intermediate class which is 4-10 year olds. You know? And not to be bitchy, but I honestly just laugh at them.
Yes I think you could definitly do ballet. You just have to work hard. I started out as a little kid (4) but I've known people who have started at thirty so you won't be dorky. I definitly think you should try it and if you really enjoy it maybe someday you'll be able to go pro. Good luck!!

Dark skinny jeans. Preferably from Abercrombie %26amp; Fitch.
I would do jeans better knee length jeans maybe white or light colored shirt with same color belt as the flats. -my opinion-
They would look good with neutral coloured clothing.
Hmm... Ballet flats can be worn with almost anything. I know they'd look good with black pants and a great shirt that's not in a shocking colour.. Try skinny-leg jeans and a cute top with a bolero. that would look good
Dark jeans and a neutral top, maybe blue?
I think dark jeans and neutral colors for the pants
Perhaps a tunic with tights, and you might want to experiment with the colours because different colours go well with different skin tones.
well,, first of all, ballet flats are off, but u can wear grey with a pinkk dress, skinny jeans, anythingg gray looks gr8 with all colors
And why did you get the colour gray?????? hmmmmmmmm?

I know a little ballet, mostly technique, from high school colorguard. You probably know tons more than me actually because we dabbled in several different types of dance. That tiny little experience I do have (and after being on a team and close friends with a ballet dancer) I have come to respect anyone who devotes themselves to the art form because it takes a lot of hard work, training and dedication to do what they do.
it is so beautiful and people would be surprised at how much strength it takes. ballet dancers have the most graceful mannerisms and they are unbelievably flexible! that is awesome that you are into ballet.
exotic, extraordinary and romantic.I would actually want to learn it some day after i start earning for myself.
Having danced Ballet when I was younger. I have found that it is as much a work out as the martial arts. As well as an expression of emotion. Anyone who does not like Ballet most likely is of the opinion that classical music is only for old people. The most important thing is that if you find enjoyment in dancing it does not matter what anyone else might think. If you think that only women like Ballet, think again. Also if you delve into sports history, you will find that some of the great athletes in professional sports have taken Ballet in order to enhance their ability to perform better as an athlete
I love it !!! I'm actually takin ballet classes it rather relaxing but its work. i enjoy watching anything about ballet. Its so pretty in peaceful.

Ever since I was a little girl I have wanted to participate in the art of ballet, but my parents could never afford it. I'm a professional, and I have 7 daughters, 6 of them are ballerinas, and the older 4 are getting serious. Hannah was Clara the last two years, and Taylor is Clara this year. Leuscha and Maggie are both party girls and polichenelles (mother ginger) and Maggie is sleeping Clara, although that isn't really much of a part, she just lays in the bed in the beginning and the end because the real Clara can't get there fast enough. They chose her for that because she's pretty much a mini Taylor. Jordin is an elf and an Arabian paige, and Ella is a mouse and a Marzipan paige. I love ballet. It makes me so happy that people are still dancing and loving it, and I love seing childrens faces lght up the way mine does when they enter the studio or theatre!
i study ballet, and have a love/hate relationship with it. love it because it is dance, hate it because it is sooooooooooooo challenging ! :-)
I love it! I am sad that i have this week off for thanksgiving cause i want to be at the studio!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! btw, I LOVE IT!!!!!!!

oh, and for all u guys, who think its too girly, tons of guys do it too and i do it and i am NOt the least bit girly-

anyways, i love watching it too
ballet is amazing.. a lot of ppl think its weird and boring bcuz its slow but, i have been dancing for 8 yrs and i think its fun and it can be really pretty if u do it right ....but, professional is even better...the nyc ballet is awesome!
I love ballet! I've been dancing since I was 8, and I'm 12 now. I especially love pointe. I've been taking it for 2 years, and it hurts alot, but its really beautiful. I also love to perform!! this is my 4th year in a Nutcracker, and it's soooo fun. Ballet is not easy. You have to be EXTREMELY commited. With rehersals, I go to ballet 7 days a week!! You have to love it with all your body, or you won't get good at it. I love it!!
I LOVE IT! I dance ballet myself, and it is my biggest dream to become a professional!

It is the most graceful and beautiful sport ever!
ballet dancing is coolio~
I LOVE ballet!! I've been dancing since I was seven and I can't stop! I love the physical challenge of ballet and pointe, it feels great to master all the difficult steps. Ballet rocks!!! Good luck to all the dancers out there! =)
There are few people in my community who do ballet and most of them, friends included, think of it as a slow form of dance and only dancing on tippy-toes. I used to think it was a slow dance too, that's why I started it cos I'm a slow learner. But later I realised there are allegros and it took me by surprise but I've grown to love it because it has given me more grace, strength and flexibility. And it has opened me up to a whole new world of understanding how my body works and responds and I'm also learning a lot more about dance in its other forms.

GREAT costume! Really pretty. Try and avoid doing turns with your arms in 5th, I think that it doesn't look very nice... But if you didn't choreograph it, then its not your fault :)

-Good spotting

-Point your toes in the split-good to see that you didn't use your arms to support yourself tho :)

-And I really liked the whole going into the split, then rolling out of it-cool trick!

-Try and elongate your arms when in 5th-I know its hard because of the music and you can't stretch your arms fully.

I think you would have done heaps better if you were dancing by yourself and with slower music. But it was good to see that you were trying to keep in time. Was this just the conditions of the comp? I know if it was me I wouldn't of been very good in that kind of competition lol

Good Luck for any future comps though! Hope I helped :)

Haircut, Im a dancer, strict ballet dress code?

I need a new haircut, I have long plain hair, I want to get bangs but I am concerned about dance

In ballet we have to have no loose hair

For competitions we need a side part with no loose hair either

Do you have any suggestions for a good practical style

Thanks

Haircut, Im a dancer, strict ballet dress code?extension

i was in the same situation. strict dress code but wanted a haircut. I got side bangs that are a little longer so theyre easier to put up. It took me a while to figure out how to put my new haircut up into a new bun but after you figure out what you have to do its really easy. i just get a few clips to clip my bangs back, some hairspray and your good to go.

Haircut, Im a dancer, strict ballet dress code?movie theater opera theater

if you want bangs, go for it. but i will warn you that it is a hassle. you either have to gel them back, or carry some clips or bobby pins with you at all time. just keep that in mind.

you could also try getting layers and getting the front of your hair angle up towards your face. this will make you hair more interesting down, but also will be easier to put up.
I suggest you talk with your troupe leader and find out more details. Maybe they have a pictures of past performers that can help you find a hairstyle that doesn't interfere with your competition.

If anything keep your bangs long enough that you can comb them over to allow you to have a part in your hair and pin them up so that they are uniform with everyone else.

Also tell your hair stylist that what you need for competition, they might know how to help you.
don't do it unless u want to put gel in ur hair every time u go to ballet
you'll have to gel your hair alot... get side bangs if you really want to it's ultimately up to you though
go for it! i did and i'm in the same sitiuation, and it works fine!for class i'll usually put in a headband and a few clips and pins and put the rest in a bun, and it's easy as that! for competitions and performances, i need a few more clips and pins and a lil gel and hairspray, and i'm good to go!

good luck!

I need desprate help for my grade 4 ballet exam!?

i have my grade 4 ballet exam in 6 weeks, the four of us have been told that if we don't improve our tech and get more than 60/100 our teacher won't let us sit the exam and get our money back as we have alredy been entered. i havn't been doing ballet for long and i have had my confidence shattered i really want to pass this exam, like despratly! does anyone have any idea or help or something to help me pass? i know the routines my tech just sucks. please please help me :D

I need desprate help for my grade 4 ballet exam!?secure browser

Just practice! Have fun! And try your best!

When you practice really focus on what your doing, if you have to go slower then normal while practicing to get the technique right then do so! And if you don't pass the exam life will go on! In all reality I think the only thing that should matter when you dance is if your having fun. Nobody should ever beable to stop you and tell you that you aren't a good enough dancer.

I need desprate help for my grade 4 ballet exam!?home theater opera theater

Practice! I know that sounds hokey but practice! Also, the night before the exam do NOT do the dance. Limit yourself to practice it until about 6 or 7 that night, then get to be early to energize yourself. Dont get nervous! Good Luck!!
I take exams too. I didn't do very well on my grade 4 exam. The key is definately to show expression in your face according to the exercise and the music. I will promise you that this will get you a good grade. Remember its all in the facial expression.

I need to know 5 ballet rules!!!!!!!!!!! I have searched all over and cant find a thing!!!!!!!!!!!!?

Just five simple ballet rules

I need to know 5 ballet rules!!!!!!!!!!! I have searched all over and cant find a thing!!!!!!!!!!!!?opera singer

Ballet requires that the dancer stand with their legs rotated outwards. This is called turn out. Turn out allows for greater mobility of the legs and produces a pleasing line in many poses. As this is not a natural way of standing ballet dancers must train carefully so as not to injure their knees or ankles.

It is also important for a ballet dancer to maintain a good body alignment both to prevent injury and to produce a more pleasing look.

theres some!

I need to know 5 ballet rules!!!!!!!!!!! I have searched all over and cant find a thing!!!!!!!!!!!!?amc theater opera theater

- during port de bra, the arms must be balanced at all times. the arms must never stop.

- all arabesque positions may be shown en l'air as well as a terre

- when changing direction at the barre, one must turn towards the barre rather than away from it

- position legs for turnout rather than height.

- do as the examiner asks, not what you believe he/she wants - ie, if she asks for a double turn, do a double, not a triple.

ok, i was reaching a little at the end

but hopefully that helped

Anyone got any tips on ballet ??

yes...stick with it honey...its one of the most beautiful dances in the world...%26amp; ignore the twit that said avoid it!! i saw Swan Lake at the Royal Albert Hall...absolutely fantastic...that could be you one day!!!
Only one tip but its a good one.violinists rub a substance onto their bows to make the strings resonate it is called rosin ,it comes from the pine tree and it is hardend sap a bit like maple syrup, but dry. When rosin is rubbed into the leather of your pumps the non slip qualities are uncomparable to any other product.
Hello,

(ANS) I trained as a dancer for three years including studying at the Laban Center in London. Ballet is often misunderstood, it NOT what it seems at all. Ballet is a form of dance that aims to create the illusion of ease %26amp; lightness, as well as telling a story (communication to the audience).

Ballet is nothing short of hard work, hard work to perfect the body, the movements %26amp; the correct use of one's energy. In short ballet requires incredible self control %26amp; self discipline, great attention to fine details of shape %26amp; line. Ballet requires nothing short of learning precision.

**Ballet is also a language of movement, %26amp; so to learn that language you have to practice endlessly until you become fluid %26amp; so familiar with its terms, with its vocabulary that in the end you can walk talk %26amp; speak ballet.

**Ballet doesn't suit everyone, ballet doesn't fit easily on every dancers body.

**Ballet can be good for developing fitness %26amp; strength, when taught well it can be a lovely experience to train in a studio of good ballet dancers who can move together as if you were all one being.

**To start with at a junior level ballet training is mostly focused on learning the positions of the arms %26amp; legs. And later on how to use the positions within fluid movements i.e. how the positions fit together %26amp; flow.

**Get the basic ballet positions firmly into the kinesthetic body i.e. into the muscular memory %26amp; the rest will automatically come from there. The basic positions form the foundation of the language the A,B,C as it were.

**But most of all ballet should be enjoyable to as well as requiring self control %26amp; self discipline.

I'm an ex prof ballet dancer and I want to get pointe shoes again.?

Has anyone danced on pointe again after retiring? Is this a stupid idea. Have I forgotten how bad it hurts? I just want to feel free from the ground in my (exercise) ballet class.

I'm an ex prof ballet dancer and I want to get pointe shoes again.?opera house

I actually did this. I used to dance professionally and recently got back into pointe shoes after I had not worn them for 5 years. I first wore them to teach a pointe class, then started wearing them during the adult ballet class I am taking. It was so hard for the first 5 or 6 times I put them on. I got blisters all over again and had to re-strengthen my ankles. After about the 6th time though, it was like I had never even stopped wearing them and I was able to do most of what I used to do without too much pain. It's definitely worth it. I love the feeling of being en pointe and I also love the feeling of knowing I can still do it. I am sure you will be exactly the same. Go for it!! Just invest in some great padding! Nowadays they have some pretty amazing things to put in your pointe shoes! Check it out at www.discountdance.com. Best of luck! :)

I'm an ex prof ballet dancer and I want to get pointe shoes again.?dream theater opera theater

I never have done ballet but several of my friends have. I guess it depends on how long you've been retired from it.
As an ex-professional, you should know the answer better than anyone here. Or you should know to ask this question at ballet schools.
Yes, you've forgotten how much pointe work hurts!

But, get a pair of shoes and you'll remember right away. There are some new devices out there (gel inserts) that may make a difference, but I don't think there is ever a way that it isn't going to hurt some.
I have done just that. The stronger you are the better. Remember that the pointe shoe should be like a bow for a violin. It should moving it with the foot and leg creates a beautiful line and grace. Moving against it and fighting with it only looks like a screeching violin. Do not get back into them if you are not strong enough to releve on one foot and your center is gone. Good luck.
i'm a dance student, but i've seen some of my dance teachers and some adult students go back on pointe. You're an ex-pro, so you know all about pointe work and are experienced with it. Try it out. If you find that you and your feet

aren't in "pointe shoe shape", then stop and don't hurt yourself. If it works then go ahead! :)
well if your an ex profesholal dancer you probly should nknow what to do

What do you eat before ballet?

I am finding myself worn out halfway through and just exhausted afterwards.

What can i eat that will provide me with energy to last the entire way. The class is supposed to be an hour but i swear i see that clock go over..not that i mind because i love it.

I have decided to incorporate Dasani into my diet before i go as a "pick me up" because of the salt content. Do you think that will help?

Also, this is a bit off topic but just in case i happen to get any of you really good ballet dancers... how can i make a pretty bun? I have really long and thick hair. Any tricks of the trade?

What do you eat before ballet?opera sheet music

eat heathy! fruits and vegetables are the BEST but what i have found is if i eat too much i can't dance at all have a small snack before each ballet class (not too much but also enough that you won't be starving through ballet class) foods high in vitamin are great too my snack is usually ritz crackers with grapes or a special k bar and yogurt

Dasani is a great water company i take it for ballet and absolutely love this water its not going to improve any dancing ability in anyone but it will keep you hydrated (bigger bottle than most water companies plus tastes better)

for a bun i have really thick hair too and at my studio your bun has to be perfect order some of these (bun heads bobbie pins) http://www.discountdance.com/frame_set.p...

get a good sturdy pony tail in the back middle of your head once in a pony separate the hair into two parts then twist part one around the pony and secure it with the bun head pins do the same with the other group of hair but go around the first section that is already up to finish put a hair net around the whole bun to secure everything here is a place to buy the hair nets http://www.discountdance.com/frame_set.p...

HOPE all this helps good luck

What do you eat before ballet?shows opera theater

Eat a big mac and extra large fry that will give you energy and just shave ur head then u wont have to worry about it!
Um, I bring a propel to drink before class. Water for during class. A Granola bar and an Apple for afterwards and for Rehearsal-time (for the ballets that I participate in). I'm not a strict dieter so I can eat fast-food beforehand and I'm fine.(i dont suggest it, though. )

sorry, I'm a guy and I don't really know how to make buns either. But I have seen some darn tight buns on people with long long hair, so it's possible
The best things you can eat before class are fruits, granola bars, power bars, yogurt or nuts (almonds are the best). These are all very light and are not heavy in sugar. Nuts in particular are good because they are a high source of protein and will give you lasting energy instead of a burst of energy and then a crash(the result of a lot of sugar).

The high salt content probly wont help because salt absorbs water in the body which is probly the most important thing to have in class. You must stay hydrated to keep energy up.

As for your bun:

I had the same proble. Put your hair in a ponytail. Separate it into 2 or more strands. Twist one strand around the ponytail and pin along the way. Then twist the next around pinning along the way. Repeat. Hairnets around your bun will really help to keep it tight and you can also pin all the way around your bun after you put the hairpins in to help shape it. the bunheads brand sells great hair pins, they are about 2 inches long and are very thick(they wont end in thick hair). they are a life saver. Sorry if those directions are confusing

hope it helps

How to get a better ballet body and extensions?

i'm a dancer (ballet) and i'm 13 and about 5'2 1/2" at around 103 pounds. i know i'm not overweight and i'm pretty thin, but i have some fat on my stomach and the inside of my thighs that i think if i got rid of it, it could help me in my dancing. i have kind of bad eating habits, so i don't know if that's part of it. i also think i could be more muscular. any eating suggestions or excersices to replace the fat with muscle?

my extensions (flexibility) aren't horrible, but they could be a lot better. what are some stretches to get my extensions really high?

How to get a better ballet body and extensions?listen to opera

well, I dont know much about ballet.....but I do know about this one thing. its pretty cool.

Its called the "six week body makeover". you mightve heard about it on some adds or something. but its pretty cool. its not a diet, but it tells you what to eat and stuff so it speeds up your metabolism and you lose weight super fast and i think you would be able to lose your stomach fat and the inside of your thighs. the thing comes with like all these excersizes that take like 5 minutes and work really well on certain areas, so i bet they would probably help you. but idk.

and ha i personally dont think you have anything to worry about when it comes to your weight, but i guess if you really think it would help your dancing....then do whatever lol.

i hope i helped.

Try doing 2 stretches Daily and remind

your Friends and family To always watch YOUR " as in you " eating habbits. Tell them to say " Stop " when you start eating junk food then tell them to give you something healthy!
Try stretching daily and with your parents or sibling help as they can push you down ffarther in w/e stretch you are doing and in about 1 month or 2, depending on your flexibility, you should more than likely have better flexibilty.

I'm 16, I'm thinking about doing Ballet, I have some questions?

Okay well first of all:

1) Am I too old to start? I don't want to be professional, I just want to do it for fun. I think ballet is beautiful and I would love to be a part of that! I also like figure skating and I know it's good to do ballet for that (although I'm not very good, If you knew me you'd know that I'm not athletic at all, I got a D+ in gym last quarter haha).

2) Do they have beginners classes for people my age? I wouldn't want to be with a ton of 5 year-olds.

3) Can I choose not to do a recital? I know most places teach you and have a few recitals per year showing what you've learned, but I wouldn't want to do it in front of a bunch of strangers, I'd just want to learn for myself and for fun.

Thanks so much! :)

I'm 16, I'm thinking about doing Ballet, I have some questions?city opera

1) It is absolutely not too late! I am turning 17 this saturday, but I started ballet when I was 14 (yes, a little younger but still "old" in the ballet world) and I am on pointe now! Especially if you are just doing it for yourself, what matters most is having fun, and being the best you can be. That is possible at any age.

2)They do, many studios have teen beginner classes, and others will have open adult classes for beginners, which you can take on a drop in basis which leads me to....

3) You don't have to do a recital if you don't want to. Especially if you take open classes as mentioned above, those classes are pure barre and center exercises, since they technically are not a series, there is no long term combination such as one you would find in a youth ballet series class. Even if you don't choose to go the open class route, your teacher shouldn't force you to do anything you are not comfortable doing, and if you don't want to dance in a recital, she probably would not make you. But who knows...performing is an amazing experience and by then you may want to!

Hoped this helped!

One more thought-- there are people a year older than me at my studio who are not on pointe, so don't worry about that unless you plan to go to a pre-professional school (which doesn't sound like it would meet your needs). From your description it sounds like you might want to look for a smaller studio.

I'm 16, I'm thinking about doing Ballet, I have some questions?performing shows opera theater

not sure
1) no i dont think so. especially if its only for fun.

2) yeah you could look for a studio that offers adult/teen beginner classes

3) it depends on the studio. most have one per year btw, not a few. and about the strangers, theyre usually family and friends of the ppl at the studio. but they cant force u to do something u really dont want to.

hope i helped:)
for question

1) no you are not i do ballet i am on point and you can start at any age and still be with your own age group.

2)yes they do

3) my classes you can but i guess it depens on the teacher but i'm pretty sure if you tell them you don't want to they will probebly respect that

ok i hope i help and good luck!
1) most 16 year olds would be doing point work. I do think you are a bit too old.

2) I don't think so. Most beginner classes are for younger kids. Ranging from 4-8.

3) Probably not, b/c from doing performances you can learn from your mistakes. Also half of the semester is taken up to learn dances for the recital. The other half helps you build strength by using the bar and improves your technique.

Instead of taking classes, i suggest that in the summer you can go to either a dancing or figure skating camp.

hope this helps!
1. No your not to old to start ballet. My cousin is 17 turning 18 soon and she just barly started ballet. So your not to old there might even be people your age to. And if not have a friend do it with you, its fun.

2. You would probably be in level 2, and thats a bunch of older kids were i went at least.

3. And you can choose to be and not to be in a recital, all you have to do is tell your teacher.
1) no you are not. i am 15 and this is my first year dancing with my highschool poms team who won 4th in the state of colorado. also one of the best dance teachers in the area didnt start until she was 20 and got into julliard.

2) yes they do, but it depends on some studios. Some studios dont have an age requirement or a lot of little girls just happen to all go to the same place.

3) well if you take ballet TECHNIQUE classes than you dont do dance recitals but either than that..idk
OK THE ONLY THING YOU WILL LACK AND WILL PROBLY NEVER BE AS GOOD AS A GIRL WHOS BEEN DANCCEIN SICNE SHE WAS 2 IS FLEXABILITY AND THATS KEY AND IF YOU HAVE COMCACST GO ON ON DEMANED AND DO DANCE NO THERE WILL BE NO SCOOL OR CLASS IF YOU ONLY WHANT IT FOR FUN SORRY :( BUT IF YOU LOOK UP ON EBAY GET A NEW PAIR OF POINE SHOSE (IF YOPU DONT KNOW THATS WHAT THEY WERE LOL) SO YEA YOUR PROB LIKE OMG WHO DOSE THIS GIRL THINK SHE IS A DANCER FOR 13 YEARS :0
1. Your never too old to start!

2. Well, most 16 year olds I know are on pointe. I know of a few who choose not to go on Pointe. Try and see if the studio has adult begginner ballet classes.

3. You might want to consider summer classes. Because, they will assume you will be apart of the recital, and if you don't show up, how can they dance. You can be somebodys que or something.
1) no you can start dancing at any age! I actually got my 5th grade teacher to do ballet and she loves it =D

2)yes they should have adult classes.

3) it all depends on the studio. most require you to do a recital but some don't. recitals are really fun though =]]

really hope this helps and good luck!

have fun

=D
1) Never to late to start! Just continue in doing your best! I know dis ballerina who's 55 already but is still doing a great job at it! :D

2)In our school, yes, actually in our school, a lot of teenagers almost your age(like 14,15,17,18) are starting ballet as well.

3)In our school, yes, you don't have to do a recital if you dont want to.

Good Luck, and just have fun with it!!! :D
1st your not to old to do ballet

2nd it depends on the teacher

3rd without recital you will not increase your confidence and you will not be transtered to higher class

I will be attending an audition to a ballet company and I need to bring some pictures and a resume. What kind of pictures are they looking for? What kind of resume will they be expecting?

Resume and portraits for a ballet company?movie theater

Usually a headshot. Depending on their requirements, this could mean anything from a simple snapshot with your digital camera, to a professional portrait taken in a studio. You should check with the people and ask.

And for the resume, they probably want something like your experience, training, etc. Just google "resume" and it'll pull up some results.

there is a traveling event Called Danzantes Unidos Festival. It moves around California, but its not really a competition, more like a show case.

By the way, are you in SD? Whats your groups name?

Do you have a website? I'm in a group too. i wonder if i've seen you before. Where do you work out of?

What is a really good ballet?

What is a good ballet? I'm looking for something not stereotypical (like the Nutcracker). Something with good music.

What is a really good ballet?imax theater

Some of my favorite ones are:

Coppelia - A rare comedy ballet, some of my fav ballet music. great character dances, and the whole second act is really funny.

Sylvia - same composer as Coppelia, also has fab music.

Jewels: A more contempory ballet (Balanchine), but it's really fun.

Paquita - Great spanishy music, not much story

Romeo and Juliet - Its better than you might expect it to be!

Don Q - Great Spanish and gyspy inspired music, great story

La Bayad猫re - Kind of long and complicated, but has some really beautiful elements.

Other famous ballets

Firebird

La Fille mal Gard茅e

Petruska

Esmeralda

Le Spectre de la Rose

Raymonda

Giselle

Swan Lake

Cinderella

Sleeping Beauty

and there are tons more.

Thats just off the top of my head.

Is there something specific you are looking for?

What is a really good ballet?classical music opera theater

Giselle is great.
The really good ballet is in quality of dancers, not in what they dance. And most the ballet has an amazing music. Try catching some of the Russian ballet (they come here from time to time), you'll be pleasantly surprised.
You could do Swan Lake and Giselle are some of the classics as well and here's a website to help you more about it:

http://www.ballet-dance.com/200604/artic...

Hope i helped!:D
Swan Lake is one of the ultimate stereotypes of ballet, I think. Great Tchaikovsky music - everybody's heard the overture, whether they know it or not!
I recently saw Le Bayedere by the Kirov ballet and it was AWESOME!!!the corps was the most amazing part becasue they were perfectly in time. It had a pretty cool story line too and at one point the main guy gets high on opium and starts to hallucinate and you see the hallucinations...
giselle!! it is cool. its kinda creepy. i like it. cinderella's music by prokofiev is really cool. especially end of act two. clock scene!! its music is cool. i love that one. midsummers night dream is also cool. i think ud like em

How do I do a Ballet bun??

How do I do a Ballet bun??performing arts opera theater

Why without bobby pins?

If have bobby pins to use, then follow this video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ywgUDBpn...

(the second girl has short hair)
put it in a ponytail then twist it around the hair tie then secure it with two other hair things- easy!
1) Put your hair in a pony tail (depending on the height you want your bun, high, or low)

2) Wrap it around the base of the ponytail so it looks like a bun.

3) Secure it with hairpins by catching some of the hair on your scalp (not in the ponytail) and some in the bun (in the ponytail) and push it into the bun.

4) When it is secure enough that you can let go without it falling down, but a hairnet over it, and repeat step #3 while catching part of the hairnet in the hair too.

5) You're done! I find it helpful to put a bun clip over mine (it catches up loose ends) make sure that the bun is secure because if you are a serious dancer, you will be doing lots of turns, with spotting.
i would try what is called a hair-o-gami. its kind of like a snap braclet except for your hair. directions are included with product. im not sure if it works with short hair. i guess it depends what your calling "short".

hope this helps!

Is there any way a girl that started ballet a 14 can become a pro ballet dancer?

around what age do girls become ballet dancers???

Is there any way a girl that started ballet a 14 can become a pro ballet dancer?amc theatre

This is definitely not impossible, but would be very hard and very rare.

You would need to go very quickly to a very very good ballet school, and begin preparing to go to a pre-professional ballet school.

It would be immensely hard work, and other options would need to be kept wide open

The said 14 year old would definitely need to speak to her new dance teacher about it.

Girls can become professional ballet dancers at any age. Back a long time ago, there were "baby ballerinas" - they were called this because they were only around 13/14.

But now, I think most people become professionals at the age you would finish your final year at school, if not a year or two after. This is because there are full time ballet schools, like normal school that finish, and then many dancers get accepted into companies.

Of course, this all depends on if the dancer is accepted into a company or not.

Is there any way a girl that started ballet a 14 can become a pro ballet dancer?symphony opera theater

Very unlikely but not impossible. It is better to start before puberty because at that age the body is more flexible, but if you have been practicing a lot of floor gymnastic that should preserve the flexibility and make it easier for you to be successful.Remember that the most difficult part of ballet is the very strict discipline to be observed,it is a very hard path and unless it is you prime love in your life you will not be able to pursue a carrier.Classical ballet requires total dedication above anything else in your life.
one name dacry brussel one of the best ballerinas and she started at the age of.......13! so yes you can its not impossible

just improbable.she had to work hard though so you should to
yeh you go girl
IMO (and I've watched amateur dancers for almost 40 years) is that you are really at about the limit where you could become a professional ballerina. Most pro dancers are well on their way by age 14 and have been told they have the special talent it takes to become professional. At age 17-18 most ballerinas who make it in the dance world are already in professional dance companies. With enormous dedication, great teachers and LOTS of time in the studio, along with a dancer's physique and TONS of talent, you might have a very, very slim chance of making it, because there are literally thousands of young talented women out there with great physical skills, burning ambition and training that don't make it simply because of the ferocious competition. Remember that the vast majority of professional ballerina careers are short, poorly paid, involve constant dieting and worry about the risk of injury not to mention the whims of the ballet's artistic director. Whether you try or not is up to you. Remember that you also have school and a social life to fit in too. I wish you luck - I really do.
I started ballet at 3 then I quit around 7 and I'm at it again. So I would say anything is possible.
it dosen't matter what kind of arch you have. it all depends on your quality, perserverance, and devotion. dancing is not about how your feet look. it is about how well you dance!!!!!

no, you will probably not get to the professional level, it takes a long time.

I'm uncomfortable with a male ballet teacher?

I am uncomfortable with a male ballet teacher. We must wear tights and a leotard only, and I'm not exactly that skinny. It's not that I don't like him, because I do, but I... just... when I'm on my period and I take his class with only a leotard and tights, won't my pad show through? Don't even get me started on wearing tampons.

uncomfortable!

I'm uncomfortable with a male ballet teacher?imax theatre

It's all about comfort level. If you are not comfortable taking his class, it is better to just find another teacher or studio. It's great that you like him but you really can't control your comfort level.

If it helps, ballet dancers come in all shapes and sizes. Dancing is a great way to lose some weight and build tone and strength. Your male teacher has probably seen all shapes and sizes and will not be judging you. His goal is to teach you ballet.

As for your pad, unless it's very thick, it shouldn't show through. Since class is only an hour or so, just put a thinner pad on before class and change again to your regular one right after.

I'm uncomfortable with a male ballet teacher?performing show opera theater

if you don't have a really strict dress code you could wear either a ballet skirt over your leotard or if you don't want to do that ( i don't blame you if you dont) you could get some shorts. At my studio we call them booty shorts but they are really short and tight. Katrinawear.com has lots of good ones. Just find some that match your leotard!
Just wear a thin pad and change it often, these days pads are very thin yet hold a lot and arent bulky like they used to be
a dancer must show confidence at all times, a dancer knows not what comfort is, that's what dance truly expresses, because I love dance so much I could dance even if i was leaking blood to my soles
Really you should just consider wearing a tampon, the first modern tampon was made exactly for a ballet dancer..And tampons aren't uncomfortable, most people don't notice them at all.
don't worry, about feeling self consicous with the male ballet teacher. dance is mostly made up of girls, and i'm sure he's used to teaching them and i'm sure some girls have unexpedetly gotten periods in his class.

you do not have to wear a tampon, i've worn the heaviest pad to the thickest pad during dance. when i get my period, i will wear underwear (even though some people dont usually, i dont when i dont have my period.) and then wear my pad. Its not just any underwear, its a style called bikini underwear, so you cant see it and its high cut so your leotard will cover it. leotard leg cuts come in different styles. the most common is called ballet cut line which is a very high cut which can sometimes show your underwear. there other styles that arent as high cut that u could try. i use the ballet cutline, wear the bikini underwear, and it covers it. i still havenr even tried tampons, but ive heard they arent as uncomfortable as they sound. as for now, your male ballet teacher would want you to feel confident in his class. my male teacher has become my favorite becuas ehe can teahc you os much about partening and what the male has to do. you'll be fine, dont worry. happy dancing!??
tampons aren't uncomfortable if you use them correctly. that's what dancers have to do... we have to wear tampons. it's either that or you could wear a panty liner (which won't show) but you'll have to change it every couple of minutes. with pads there's a good chance that you could get some leakage and in tights and a leotard, that could be incredibly embarrassing. just try the tampon. tampons are your friends lol =]
Well if you are ONLY allowed to wear leotard and tights then you should think about getting a teacher change, but you really like him so can't you wear your underwear, I mean I go to Chamberlain and we are allowed to wear underwear as long as it doesn't show through our leotard and tights.

I'm 16 and is dancing ballet. I want to try out gymnastics, but not professionally. Am I too ol

I've danced ballet ever since I was three, but now (at 16), I'm thinking of trying out gymnastics. I REALLY WANT TO. I mean, not professionally or anything. I just want to know how to do walkovers, tucks, and flips. Am I too old? And what are the disadvantages I may have?

I'm 16 and is dancing ballet. I want to try out gymnastics, but not professionally. Am I too old?shows

You are not too old. It sounds like with what you want to do, you should take tumbling. Tumbling is just floor, and none of the other events. But, if you do full gymnastics, there are many advantages. Floor will help you with tucks, flips, and all that jazz. Beam really helps with balance (which you probably already have since you've been doing ballet for so long.) Bars will really help with arm and ab strength. And vault will help with agility, leg strength, arm strength, ab strength.

Gymnastics will give you overall strength, agility, endurance, technique on tricks, and balance. It is really good for dancers who want to improve .

I'm 16 and is dancing ballet. I want to try out gymnastics, but not professionally. Am I too old?comedy show opera theater

If your not trying to do it professionally age wont matter.

Ballet experience should help because it teaches you discipline, precision, and some flexibility.
i think that sounds like fun........i think that you will be strong and have good balance from the ballet
because you've been dancing so long i sugest if you started gymnastics you would only have a lesson or two a week.

it can confuse you and you may get mixed up with your ballet.

for example: when you have your arms in fifth, in gym oyu haave to have them as straight as possible and in a v line

in gym you don't point your toes as much.

i would also be careful when trying to do walkovers, tucks and flips that you do not hurt your self.

by your age you'll most likely be en pointe and you don't want to put a strain on your feet.

i would take lessons but regularly remind your coach that you are not doing it competetively and if it gets too much for you and your body then stop gym.
Your never to old to just learn. The only real disadvantage is that its hard to find classes.
if its the specific tumbling youre into, see if your studio offers an acro class! i was a gymnast before i danced, and the two activities really play off eachother well!

Just do it to have fun! As if you were dancing in front of all your best friends! You'll be great...don't sweat it!
good luck! i know how nerve-wracking it can be waiting backstage. i used to be a dancer too. i would try to relax and stretch while i was waiting, and also go through my routine a few times as well. you'll do great! =)
Do some deep rhythmical breathing exercises whilst concentrating on the steps that you are going to do. It can really help to reduce the nerves. Good luck.

Is 14 too old to start ballet to become a prima ballerina???

I am already on Grade 6, and have only just started-

if i practise every morning for an hour my stretches and barre work, and then have 2 lessons a week, is that enough to get me into the royal ballet school at 16, and could i become a prima ballerina??!

please helllpppp!! this is my dream!!!

Is 14 too old to start ballet to become a prima ballerina???performing shows

Yes, you are probably too old....sorry, but don't let my opinion affect you. Realize though that you will need a ton of talent and the best teachers around to get anywhere. 2 lessons/week? That is not enough and is so little as to be laughable (sorry again). You need 2 lessons/day 6 days/week. I am TOTALLY serious. Don't get your heart set on a career as a ballerina, the competition is murderous and most ballerinas burn out physically and/or mentally in their 20's. Take dance as far as you can and be happy with the destination even if it is not what your expected....the journey is worthwhile... mine is the best advice you will ever get.

It is never too late to do anything! the only thing that is going to be hard is that people are going to tell you it is hard..understand what i am saying?.. people are going to try and convince you to try and do something else and that is going to make your attempt even harder to accomplish not because they want to bring you down, but just because thats how people are..so if you are ready to face the judgemental: you are wasting your time, then go for it! good luck

How do I get an amazing ballet arch?

I have a pretty good arch, but my right is better than my left. I am very serious in ballet. I have a very short torso, really long legs, and natural turnout. The only thing I need are high insteps. Is there something I can do to make my package complete? PLEASE! HELP!

How do I get an amazing ballet arch?mr messed up

You can strengthen your ankles with a stretch band. But your arch really is what it is, you can't change it. The arch depends on your bone structure. Trying to change that could shorten your career with years or decades. You have an amazing body for ballet, and you say that your arch is good. You are a very lucky person! Now concentrate on clean technique and art of dancing.

How do I get an amazing ballet arch?getting late opera theater

You should really point your foot when you are dancing and make sure that you are getting on the top of your platform when you dance. Hope this helps! *It's really pretty when you can finally get that beautiful arch.
You could try;

*elastic bands and work your feet in those, they should be about $6 or under -get it from any kind of fitness store or dance catalog

http://www.dancedistributors.com/index.c...

*you could also buy a foot strecher -they run a little more http://www.dancedistributors.com/index.c...

http://www.discountdance.com/frame_set.p...

there are also rollers that some use- i havent seen any lately tho...

hope on of these helps
Depending on how good or bad they are, sticking your feet under a couch or similar object that is heavy works.

Just point them and slip them under the arch of the couch until you feel a (good) stretch (it shouldn't hurt, it should just feel very stretched). Focus on lengthening.

This kind of stretch hurts your heels and the area around it, so if it is hurting that area, stop and shell out however much money you need for one of those neat-o foot stretching devices that have an area for your heel.

Good luck. It'll take forever.
strech your feet consantly. and if your right is better than your left, it s probably not as strong as your left so do you relavaes on your right, and sterch your left more. really work hard on yout toundus because thats whats suposed to help you with your piont.
Sit on the floor with your legs in front of you. Now bend your legs into your chest. Next slowly straiten your legs back with out moving your feet. This is a great exercise. Also just push your foot with your hands.

good luck
You can work really hard to creating more of an arch by stretching your ankles, and having a friend push down on the top part of your foot when you are sitting, legs out straight, toes pointed. But you are also only able to do what your body will let you. Work on keeping your legs straight and knees stretched to help sustain your arch. And remember, all ballet dancers have their own challenges. Nobody has the perfect ballet body, so keep working.

There are schools that accept students at any age.
Ofcourse you can! At the dance studio that i take dance at even adults can take dance lessons.
yes, it isn't too late. go for it.s
You are never too old.
yes you can.

just need to find a class that accepts applicants in you age range. you might have to start with younger girls so you can get the basics down.

good luck, its never too late!
Of course you can!! Just follow what your heart says and do it!
Of course you can- at any age!

They even have beginner ballet classes for adults!

yes of course. i want a relationship.15
Yeah, if you have the money..they will take you!

note* my friend took ballet and she was 110 pounds..they thought she was too big! so see what they look for before you join!
Yes you should be able to but keep in mind that you will be in classs with girls that have several years experience.

Try calling around and see who has an older, beginner class.

GOOD LUCK.
I seen no reason at all for you not to start ballet. You will have a lot of catching up. If you work hard and practice often you can be in point by the age of 17. Its not easy but if you find a get teacher, you will be great at it. Good Luck.
Not only you can, but you should! Age does not matter. You can go to ballet at any age, as long as you really want to do that. But it is hard work. So if you are ready, do not wait another minute! Have fund and enjoy it!
Yes. There are schools that accept students at any age. I've always wanted to take ballet as well. Good luck!
Of course you still have the option of taking ballet; dance, like music, can be studied at any age. Since this is not really my area of expertice I can't tell you where, but my sister (who is now a junior in college and has been taking ballet most of her life) has met a number of people who just took up ballet at around the age of 20. If there's a community center program at a college near you, that might be your best bet. Just take it slow and easy with a few beginners' classes and you'll most likely have fun there. But if you prefer professional private classes, by all means look into that too. In a comparison to how I just took up violin lessons, you probably will have to learn basics at the same level as much smaller children, but most likely at your age, you'll excel faster than a developing child and still have fun. Like I said, go for it if it's really a passion or something you want to try out. ;)
I am a man. I BEGAN dancing ballet at age 21 (not professionally). I was in a pre-professional company. Most of the women were 13-18 years old. Some had been dancing since they were small children, but others started at your age or later. All loved it and had a truly wonderful time. There is no reason on earth for you not to go for it and enjoy every minute. As you said, the chance of you becoming a professional ballerina are tiny, but it isn't what you want. So go for it.
Of course you can still take ballet, you can do anything you want to do. It is never too late to do anything! I think spending time with your family is GREAT, so don't get too caught up in the ballet. You should definately Go for IT!! Just believe in yourself! Good Luck!
sure you can take it at any age
I took my first dance class EVER when i was 18. I'm not in it to dance professionally either, I dance because I love it. I definitely KNOW you can start now and have tons of fun doing it. :-)
i think that it's never too late to start dancing. you could start when your were 50 if you wanted to. just find a dance studio near you and ask a worker there about taking classes
Yes Dumb head.
Of course you can. If a 70 year old can go back to school and an 80 year old learn tap dance for the first time. Then you can without a doubt learn ballet. Your not even full grown yet...go for it, do it, and believe it!!!

Don't underestimate yourself!!!
You sure can. I wanted to dance on pointe, but was too busy with school, sports and life. I started at a private studio then later at a community college. I was 32 years old. Two years latter, I got my pointe shoes :-)

Older students have the advantage of being able to focus on the lesson. I would recommend taking classes two days a week, not just one.

Enjoy!!
u can do anything that u set ur mind 2.

it may take more time but its a good way to stay fit.
That would be humilating for u. I take it since 4 year old. I am sorry, Try hip hop.
