Is 14 too old to start ballet?

i have tried a lot of things... art classes, soccer, taekwando, horseback-riding, and a lot of other stuff in my past. im not much of an athlete but do you think 14 years old is too old to start going to a ballet class? i really want to do something other than staying at my house all day. but when i did soccer i was the only one on my freshman team who hasnt played before and i was really bad compared to the others because they have been playing ever since they were little. so do you think im too old to start something like this? thanks!

Never to old to learn ballet. To star in a major production? Yeah, way too old for that, but if your goal is really internal then enjoy yourself.

no, it's never too late to start anything. GO FOR IT TOOTS! =D
OH certainly not!! Sure, there are those primaballerinas who have been dancing since they could walk, but you won't be in the same classes with them! I dance at the university level and I can't tell you how many young men and women enroll in a dance class--just on a whim--and not only enjoy it immensely but find that they are quite good at it naturally. If you find it boring or too strict try another type of dance, theres modern, tap jazz...get out there and MOVE, honey! Don't forget to bring a friend, too:)
No, actually it's not too old... it's pushing it, if you wanted to pursue a career in ballet, of course, but I recently watched a biography of a professional ballet dancer who started studying ballet at that age, so it's not entirely impossible! If you only wanted to do if for fun, recreation and fitness, then there's no age barrier, really... as long as you're capable of doing the various exercises!
it depends on how far you want to go, if you just want to do it for fun then its never too late;but if you want to be in major performances and take it professionally, then it may be too late and you will have to work really hard.
what 's your name
Nope, you're not too old. I'm 26 and I first took ballet when I was 25 in college. If you want to make it a profession then it's too old but just for fun it would be fine and I bet that you'll have fun doing it. I did! I'm also taking clogging, Irish and Spanish dance and social dance so those might be an option too. Just have fun and do what you like!
It's difficult to start this at age 10 when many start at age six... 14 is really "up there" if you have ideas about becoming a "prima." I want to emphasize though, that IFF* you have the "body type," and you're the "diehard type" that doesn't mind putting yourself through a gruelling schedule and the kind of discipline one seldom finds in today's youth, then yes, you've got a shot at success... worse case senario is that you will learn bodily grace and control that few in this life ever attain... and your future husband will love you for it! (Don't ask why!)

*if and only if
It's never too old.Dancing its away of expression
I'm 36 and still try new things every day. You're never too old!
well,if you have got the interest,it shouldn't really be a problem.

good lucks in getting your first ballet lessons..!!
No there was a girl that i read and she wanted to do ballet just like you and she was 15 and the other girl was 17 so you are not too late. If you are too embarrased to go then buy a video to practice at home. From ebay or amazon
If you're serious about it and are willing to work hard, you can achieve anything.
Of course not. You may be behind, so you'll either have to double up on classes, work twice as hard as the other people, or be ok to be in a lower level than others your age. But, if you work hard enough and really focus on technique, you may be able to move up quickly. Your repertoire may not be as advanced as the other kids when you move up, but if your technique is there then you'll be fine. : )
no not at all. i started ballet when i was 12 and love it, some of the girls in the classes I've been in have been a lot older and they did just fine. don't get discouraged if there are others that are better at ballet than you, the important thing is to have fun
You are never to old to learn to dance...if, and only if, you set your mind to it. If you choose to do it you will feel like a total idiot after your first class. It takes time to understand the terms, let alone perform them. Start out with a class where you are not the only beginner. Never act like you know somethig if you don't. That will only get you into more trouble. Dance takes patience, it will not come overnight. WHATEVER YOU DO...DON'T GIVE UP!!!!!!
yay ballet woooo!
I'm 13 and ballet is my thing! I love it. Please do it. Not only is it a good exercise. But it's also teaches you good self disipline. It feels so great to dance if front of 100s of people. You feel like a star. You not to old actually dance magizine says that ages 12-15 is about the right age to start dance classes so you are just fine. You go girl! :D
